Gems and crystals are the same
There are 3 major types of "secondary" materials. They are gems, crystals and stimulators. Gems can give bonuses of all kinds that equipment can normally have, other than the basic 4 stats. Crystals give bonuses to the 4 basic stats of luck, int, dex and str. Stimulators increase the chance of higher than normal base stats (higher attack, def, etc) and are often thought to not allow below average stats, but they give the item creation a 10% chance of failure
Gems and crystals are the same gems and crystals that have been available since Maplestory came out, but in order to use them as "secondary" materials they have to be "graded," also known as to strengthening them. The following list are some things about strengthening:
1) There is a small cost to strengthening.
2) Strengthening gems or crystals makes them unusable for anything but the maker skill and is done through the maker skill.
3) Each time a gem or crystal is strengthened, there is a chance to get 1 of 3 "grades" from the strengthening.
4) The 3 "grades" are, in GMS, called, basic, intermediate and advanced.
5) 10 basic crystals can be Strengthened again for a chance to make 1 intermediate and 10 intermediate gives a chance for 1 advanced. One gem is lost if it fails.
6) Only one of each type gem or crystal can be used on a single equipment, at most. This is regardless of the grade.

Coloured powders are also common
"Primary" materials, or the most basic materials needed to make the equipment, are usually commonly found materials that drop from various monsters in the game. First off, there are the metal plates, coloured powders, and monster crystals. Specific metal plates and monster crystals are required for any equipment made and powders are required for most. There are also occasionally other materials required usually for higher leveled equips. Dragon scales, dragon spirit and pieces of time are examples of other extra required materials.
Metal plates are refined from metal ores, which come from monster drops. Every regular monster has a chance to drop one or two specific kinds of the 7 variety of metal ores. Each monster type can only drop a specific set, so don't expect to find all 7 from the same area. Most aren't that uncommon of a drop, but some kinds, like mithril, do not come from many monsters that people generally train on.
Like metal plates, coloured powders are also common monster drops. Also like metal plates, every regular monster has a chance to drop a specific set per type of monster. Coloured powders are not needed for most weapons, but they are needed for most armors. Due to the popularity of black or dark equipment, black powders often are the most desired powders to collect.
While "primary" materials are the basic materials required to make any single piece of equipment with the maker skill, "secondary" materials are the bonus boosters. "Secondary" materials are totally optional but each type has its own way to boost various bonuses on the equipment being made.

Maplestory Equipment Creation
Skill equipment creation is on a different level to that npc based equipment creation. The number of possible variations and customizations to it makes it a fair bit more complicated than its npc based counterpart. Though the name of the skill varies between geographical versions of Maplestory usually it is either called 'maker' or 'alchemy.' In GMS the equipment making skill is just called "maker" which is what it will be referred to in this article.
There are some basics to the skill to explain before getting too much into the variations. The list following further explains these basics:
1) There is a specific quest required to be done to get maker. It can be started in Magatia.
2) Each job/class can only make equipment for the general job set. A hermit can make claws and daggers, but not swords, for example.
3) There are three skill levels available. Each is available only after you pass a certain level.
4) The lowest leveled equipment that you can make is level 50 equipment.
5) Each level allows for a greater choice of equipment to be made.
6) A character can only make equipment that is at maximum five levels above the character's level.
7) Every different kind of equipment that can be made has its own set of required "primary" materials.
8) Most equipment has optional customization slots as well. This is where you can put the "secondary" materials This will be discussed further later in the article.

For the first several characters
There is also the option for lower leveled people(mainly those between levels 10 to 30) to use the Orbis exchange quest to level quickly. Though they aren't always easily available to buy in the free market nor are the quest items dropped from monsters that characters in this level range can usually defeat. It can be a very fast way to level up to the mid 20s.
Then there is the option for buying leech. You pay someone (Nexon has made a statement paying for this in mesos is legitimate in their eyes) to party with you and do the fighting for you. All you have to do is sit back and gain the easy experience. With the exception of leeching from Anego and bigfoot (where available), leeching is usually for those level 75+.
These, of course, all use more mesos than you would normally gather while training. Meaning you would need a good way to make mesos.
For the first several characters I made, I did train the way I now consider the "slow way" I would train until I either ran out of mp or hp then sit in a safe place waiting for it to recover. Leveling seemed to take forever. I am happy to say, both with better starting equipment and the ideas used here, what used to take me up to a week to accomplish, I can now do in a few hours of play.

Power Leveling in MapleStory
For the sake of this email, when the term power leveling is used it's not meant as the power leveling that is warned about in the maple tips that show up. That kind of power leveling involves paying someone real money (usually via a site) to level a character for you. All you have to do is give them your account information. Many of those sites are scamming sites to begin with and the way they level, if they do what they claim, is dubious at best.
The power leveling explained here is 100% legitimate. The basic concept is the fact that you buy/collect a lot of potions go to the best training spot for your damage and skills to defeat monsters. When your hp or mp runs low, you just use a potion and keep going. There is no waiting at a safe place for your hp or mp to recharge slowly. If you really want to level fast and they are available on the version of MapleStory you play on, then you could also buy a 4 hour 2x experience card and try to use as much of this time as possibly just fighting.
Of course the basics of how to power level are only part of it, knowing where to train is another part. This depends on both your level, damage, whether or not you wish to train in a party and what areas are available on the version you play on. Usually, irregardless of the version you play on, until levels in the mid 70s, you will usually want to choose monsters that you can frequently defeat in one to two hits.

3 Easy Steps For Building Your Magician
This Maplestory Magician Guide will cover a few steps that will have you well on your way to becoming an amazing magician.
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you build your magician:
Put the majority of your AP into INT
Keep your STR and DEX to a minimum, just so you can equip items
Make sure your stats are correctly distributed at the beginning
Now, onto the easy Maplestory magician guide:
Step 1: Distribute your stats when you create your character
In case you don't already know, now your stats are redistributed when you become a Maplestory magician. Because of this, it is best to distribute your stats accordingly in order to leave the beginner area quickly:
When you level up add 1 point to DEX and the rest to STR until you reach level 8 and become a magician. This will ensure quick leveling until then.
After you become a magician, your stat points will be reset so you have only 4 STR and 4 DEX, which is ideal for all Maplestory magicians.
Step 2: Distribute your stats after becoming a Maplestory magician
When you become a magician, you will definitely want to make it so your LUK is 3 more points than your level. So, for example, if you're at level 10, your LUK should be 13. That way you will be able to wear the best equipment for your level. Some magicians have no points put into LUK. These are called LUKless magicians, but they are usually played by more experienced players.
Step 3: Train for the best
You will definitely want to train hard as a magician. Most magicians become frustrated early on because they feel they aren't doing enough damage, but this is normal in the first few levels. As your character grows, he will be able to do much, much more damage. It is well known that Maplestory magicians can have the coolest and some of the most powerful attacks, harming multiple enemies at once at either short or long range. Make sure you continue to train and use the highest level equipment that you can.

MapleStory Magician Guide
If you've been training up well in MapleStory, you've probably reached the time when you will be able to advance to the 2nd job advancement.
It is a good idea to note that at level 30, a magician is much more powerful than the other classes. This puts you at an advantage and you may be able to level up faster at this point.
So once you reach level 30, you will want to return to Ellinia and speak to Grendel the Really Old. After talking to him, he will send you to the 2nd job advancement instructor in The Forest North of Ellinia. Talk to him and he will take you into a tree, where you will find extra powerful horned mushrooms and curse eyes. They drop dark marbles, so pick those up until you get 30 of them. When you finish with that, talk to the instructor and he will send you back to Grendel the Really Old after giving you a Proof of a Hero. Grendel will see your new item and then he will ask you which path you want to take.
Most people don't choose fire/poison, but it isn't bad in any way. Ice mages can freeze and kill their enemies quickly, and lightning comes with that class as well. In fact, lightning attacks allow you to kill up to 6 enemies at once, which is very powerful and useful to say the least. The last 2nd job advancement choice you could make is to become a Cleric, which eventually becomes very, very rich. You will also have the responsibility of healing your party in party quests.

The left one has lower attack
Aside from that, Pianus has all the typical attacks you'd expect: a big beam dealing 3,700~ (left) or 4,700~ (right), avoidable 10t weights that drop down dealing the same damage as the beam and of course, HP 1/MP 1. It also casts physical and magic immunity. (far too frequently if you ask me...) It can also dispel and lock skills, though the right side will only do this if someone is standing behind it (in it). If you've been wondering what I mean by left and right, two Pianus (Pianii?) can spawn in the same map, obviously on the left and right side. Though similar, they have several differences: The left one has lower attack, hp and defence. But dispels and locks skills far far more often. It also gives around 300,000 less experience than the right one.

A Guide on How to Make Mesos Faster in MapleStory
This article covers more tips about levelling your character in MapleStory to make more mesos faster.
Are you already making more mesos for your characters in Maple Story using our mesos-making strategies in our guides yet?
Here is another training tip for you today:
If you are training to level up your characters, you need to go to Areas where the monsters will drop items that are being used for quests. Training at the right areas will actually make you more mesos than you think!
My Professional Mapler friend John used to train in the Secret Pig Beach to level up his character and the Pig heads that he picked up there can sell for as much as 5K per piece!
So, as you are levelling up your character in the game, you will receive loads of quest items which can then be sold to other fellow MapleStory players that are looking to complete the quest quickly, without having them to try to spend a lot of time to go out and fight for the quest items themselves.
Remember to try out this tip the next time you play Maple Story! This tip works well for you no matter if you are a MapleStory Warrior, Magician, Bowman or Thief because every character class needs as much mesos as they can to buy the best armour and equipment that they can possibly afford.

Jane and the Wild Boar
There are many great mesos-making quests inside MapleStory that can make you a few Millions and one of them is as follows:
Quest name: Jane and Wild Boar
Location: Lith Harbour
Level Required: 25
This is a Killer quest as well. This quest is very easy because of what you need to get. Most of the time, the times you need you have already been hunting. In this case you will need to kill and get wild boar teeth. You will need 100 wild boars' teeth and 120 horned mushrooms. This quest is very simple, just a simple collection quest. Once you finish this quest, return it and you will receive an attack scroll!
1. Every time I completed this quest, I received a 60% attack scroll for magicians. This is worth a lot of mesos. Each time I did this, I sold the scroll for 2 millions mesos! This scroll easily sells for 2 millions! Without a doubt, 2 millions mesos is a great help for the upcoming armour that you are going to need, so try not to blow it too fast.
2. If you do not get that magician scroll, you will probably get a spear attack scroll or something along that line. That can be sold for $800,000! So, no matter what, you are going to make some decent money out of this quest. There is no reason you should walk away from this quest.

A Thief Guide for Choosing Your Maple Story Character
A thief is a very under-estimated character class in Maple Story.
Not many people really know how to play a thief character when playing Maple Story for the first time.
You may not think so but a powerful thief is able to do an insane amount of damages as they progress through higher levels in the game.
Thieves can be very fun to play with once you get very good at them.
As a thief, you will have the choice to either use range attack or use melee attack on your enemies.
Either way, a thief is a very fun character class to play with but it will take you some time to master your thief character well.
The Pros of using a Thief as your character class in Maple Story are as follows:
1. A Thief can execute extremely fast attacks.
2. They can use range or melee attack, making them quite versatile when it comes to attacking their enemies.
3. Thieves have the ability to execute jump attacks.
4. They possess high accuracy and avoidability.
And the Cons of using your Thief character in Maple Story are as follows:
1. A Thief has low HP and Defence level.
2. Dagger thieves will take a while to level their characters.
3. Assassins will cost a lot of mesos to operate.
4. Thieves are very abundant.
If you are tired of playing with the other Maple Story characters such as Warriors, you may want to have a change of character class and try your hand at being a thief!

A Quick Guide to Making Maple Story Mesos
Making Mesos can be hard, especially at low levels, and its never fun to site and grind all day without making any progress. There is good news however, you can make quite a lot of Mesos relatively easily if you know what you are doing. There are 3 main techniques to making Mesos, Grinding, Questing and Saving them once you make them. I will explain these 3 techniques in a bit more detail:
1. Grinding is the simplest way to make Mesos but it can be annoying if you do not know how to do it properly. The key is to grind only monsters that are within two levels of yourself and to make sure you spend your points properly. Put your points into HP or mana if applicable in order to reduce downtime and make your grinding more effective. Try to find enemies that you can kill in just a couple of hits for the maximum time to Mesos ratio. Fighting monsters that are too high in level will increase the damage you take and thus create more downtime and make you use your healing items which cost the Mesos you are trying to gain.

This is my account skill and items
Fighters and Pages are essentially the same until you reach level 50, but Spearmen are considerably worse for a while. For this reason, most people choose to be Fighters or Pages at this point. From levels 50-70 Spearmen eventually catch up, while, as it turns out, Pages actually become the weakest in the end. Fighters become the strongest with a skill called Rage.
Fighters can deal a huge amount of damage with one hit, Spearmen can kill multiple enemies quicker than the other two jobs, and Pages can use cool elemental attacks. Choose which one suits you. Will you help me select account?

Maplestory Warrior Guide
By the time you reach level 30 as a warrior in Maplestory, you're ready to go on to your 2nd job advancement. In order to get the 2nd job advancement, you need to pass a test and then choose one of three jobs.
Remember Dances with Balrog? Go back to Perion and talk to him. After doing so, head west until the music changes (about two "screens"). Then go up for a while until you see someone standing. Talk to this man and he'll take you to the testing area, where you'll be fighting Lupins and Fire Boars. These are a little different from the ones you normally find, but they have less HP. In order to always land a hit on them, you need 43 points in accuracy. If you don't meet that, buy some sniper potions and use them to boost your accuracy during the test. You don't need to fight both types of monsters, so it's recommended that you fight only the Fire Boars as the Lupins can be difficult to kill.
These monsters drop marbles, and you need 30 of them in order to prove your worth. After you've collected them all, talk to the guy in the testing area and he'll give you an item called Proof of Hero. Take that item to Dances with Balrog and at last, he'll let you choose whether you want to be a Fighter, a Page, or a Spearman.

You need to know how to use the Ability Points properly in the MapleStory game to add to the stat of your Magician character at the very start of the game. This is to ensure that your Magician character will be at his full power.
Click on the "F" on the keyboard to bring up your stat screen whenever you level up. This is where you will be able to allocate your points into the stats of your choice.
The main stat for a Magician is Intelligence (INT) and most of your points should be put into that.
The other stat that a Magician needs is LUK. LUK (Luck) is only used for the Magician as a requirement to wear most Mage equipment.
In this case, you just need to keep LUK at 3 points above your existing level. So, if you are level 15 now, your LUK should be 18.
All other Ability Points should be put right into INT.
To advance to a Magician once you have hit level 8, head over to Perry and find your way to Magic Library at Ellina. Talk to Grendel the Really Old and he will then make you a Magician.
Once you become a Magician , you will have a whole new array of skills to destroy your enemies with. You will also be able to start using Skill Points in your Magician skills to become more powerful!
There are different ways to build/spec your Magician. It will all depend on your playing style and what you think will work best for you.
There are 2 Magician Builds that we would recommend:
Standard Build
Offensive Build
If you are tired of playing with the other Maple Story characters such as Warriors, you may want to have a change of character class and try your hand at being a Magician!

Thief Build, Job Advancement
As a Thief, you are going to have the choice of advancing at level 30 to become an Assassin or a Bandit.
While you do not have to choose which one to become until you reach level 30, it is a very good idea to know
which one you will want to advance to as soon as you hit level 10 so that you may spec and use your Skill Points in the correct build to help you down the road as you progress in the game.
As an Assassin, you are a quick range attacker that becomes one of the most powerful classes in the game.
While as an Assassin, you can travel the world fast and do extreme amounts of damage from afar, but the downside to Assassins is that they are very expensive to train. You will need to spend a lot of money on an Assassin while levelling and training him but as you reach higher levels you will be rewarded.
As a Bandit, you are able to deal high amounts of damage at high levels and they cost less money to train while levelling and buying armour. While Bandit is extremely fast and can dodge a lot of enemy's attacks, they still have to go toe to toe with their foes dealing melee attacks while an Assassin can kill from afar.
