Gems and crystals are the same

There are 3 major types of "secondary" materials. They are gems, crystals and stimulators. Gems can give bonuses of all kinds that equipment can normally have, other than the basic 4 stats. Crystals give bonuses to the 4 basic stats of luck, int, dex and str. Stimulators increase the chance of higher than normal base stats (higher attack, def, etc) and are often thought to not allow below average stats, but they give the item creation a 10% chance of failure

Gems and crystals are the same gems and crystals that have been available since Maplestory came out, but in order to use them as "secondary" materials they have to be "graded," also known as to strengthening them. The following list are some things about strengthening:

1) There is a small cost to strengthening.

2) Strengthening gems or crystals makes them unusable for anything but the maker skill and is done through the maker skill.

3) Each time a gem or crystal is strengthened, there is a chance to get 1 of 3 "grades" from the strengthening.

4) The 3 "grades" are, in GMS, called, basic, intermediate and advanced.

5) 10 basic crystals can be Strengthened again for a chance to make 1 intermediate and 10 intermediate gives a chance for 1 advanced. One gem is lost if it fails.

6) Only one of each type gem or crystal can be used on a single equipment, at most. This is regardless of the grade.
