"Primary" materials, or the most basic materials needed to make the equipment, are usually commonly found materials that drop from various monsters in the game. First off, there are the metal plates, coloured powders, and monster crystals. Specific metal plates and monster crystals are required for any equipment made and powders are required for most. There are also occasionally other materials required usually for higher leveled equips. Dragon scales, dragon spirit and pieces of time are examples of other extra required materials.

Metal plates are refined from metal ores, which come from monster drops. Every regular monster has a chance to drop one or two specific kinds of the 7 variety of metal ores. Each monster type can only drop a specific set, so don't expect to find all 7 from the same area. Most aren't that uncommon of a drop, but some kinds, like mithril, do not come from many monsters that people generally train on.

Like metal plates, coloured powders are also common monster drops. Also like metal plates, every regular monster has a chance to drop a specific set per type of monster. Coloured powders are not needed for most weapons, but they are needed for most armors. Due to the popularity of black or dark equipment, black powders often are the most desired powders to collect.

While "primary" materials are the basic materials required to make any single piece of equipment with the maker skill, "secondary" materials are the bonus boosters. "Secondary" materials are totally optional but each type has its own way to boost various bonuses on the equipment being made.
